New Property Council boss Nicola Brischetto says housing appears the key concern with members in first week

WA’s new Property Council of Australia boss Nicola Brischetto said housing supply has emerged as the key issue during her first few days on the job. Ms Brischetto took over as the new executive director on May 27 and said her early conversations with members indicated housing supply was the key concern for the industry. “To get more homes out of the ground, viability is obviously number one, particularly for multi-res developments,” Ms Brischetto said. She said it was important to slash red tape and reduce taxes, calling for an adjustment to concessions for first-homebuyers and off-the-plan sales. She called on the State Government to link stamp duty concessions to home costing up to the median house price. In a wide-reaching interview since taking over from acting executive director Emily Young, Ms Brischetto said she had much to learn about property, having never worked in the field before. Her most recent role was a seven-month stint at the Child and Adolescent Health Service. She also spent two years with offshore energy regulator NOPSEMA and several years in the education field. But she said that coming in to the sector with a fresh set of eyes was an advantage. “We’ve got an amazing membership. I’ve already had the opportunity to meet quite a few of our members,” she said. “The experience and knowledge they bring to the table is invaluable. “I think my skill is supporting them to translate that into realistic and achievable policy and then working with government.”
