Terrifying threat on Prince George is really the last gasps of a dying monster
A wounded animal is at its most dangerous when you have it cornered.
And if news reports about threats made to young Prince George this week are to be believed, it looks like we may finally be getting ready to deliver death blows to the callous, racist, heinous animals that make up the organisation we call Islamic State.
Just like a C-list celebrity who signs up for Big Brother to resuscitate a dying career as pointless as their fake boobs, IS is now scraping the bottom of the barrel.
It is now using innocent children to instil fear where their previous tactics have completely failed.
They bomb our transport links; we carry on regardless. They attack an arena full of children watching a pop concert; we hold another show to raise money for the victims and tell tales of the heroes who helped rescue and save so many.
So, what do they do now? They move on to even more desperate tactics and start targeting individual children. Surely one of the last gasps of an organisation that knows it is beaten.
If I were being flippant, I’d say sending a “telegram” (yep, the encrypted instant messaging app used was called Telegram) was at least a nod to traditional communication methods — even when used in such a despicable manner — to threaten the life of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s first child, an innocent four-year-old.
But it’s so much more serious than that.
It doesn’t matter whose child he is. Threatening the life of children is simply unconscionable. Sadly, as we are all too aware, it’s nothing new for this group of fanatics.
The biggest problems Prince George and his friends at his exclusive private school in London’s Battersea face should be the same as every other child — having to eat their greens, or only being allowed one episode of their favourite television show a day.
It doesn’t matter whose child he is. Threatening the life of children is simply unconscionable. Sadly, as we are all too aware, it’s nothing new for this group of fanatics.
They shouldn’t be asking mummy and daddy why they are being followed around the school by a pack of gun-toting bodyguards. And no mother should have to worry about whether her child will come home from school each day.
It’s clear the Duke and Duchess have been the breath of fresh air the British royalty badly needed and it’s likely they will secure the future of the family firm. But will these threats force them to hide their children away? I hope not.
The very reason these terrorists are resorting to such desperate measures is that we are beating them by not hiding.
We need to continue to do what drives these lunatics insane — enjoy long, free, independent lives.
