Former Triple J presenter Bridget Hustwaite will host the ARIA Awards again and channel her inner Charli XCX by wearing a ‘brat’ green dress crafted by a Perth designer.

The Melbournian moved to WA with her Fremantle Dockers boyfriend Oscar McDonald earlier this year and has settled in making East Freo their new home.

Hustwaite, who hosted a radio show on Triple J for five years, will head East again to co-host the ARIAs red carpet and backstage antics at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion next Wednesday.

The hosting team will include Nova radio presenter Tim Blackwell, DJ Latifa Tee, actor and model Christian Wilkins and Drag Race Down Under’s Rhys Nicolson.

The ARIA Awards in partnership with YouTube, will celebrate the achievements of Aussie artists dominating the global music scene.

Hustwaite has been working with Brittany Zajitz of Blanc Bridal to design a rework of influencer Julia Edwards’ Brownlow dress.

The gown will be transformed into lime green, a colour many music fans have come to identify UK singer Charli XCX with.

“It’s the colour of the year! I needed something loud and last year was my hot pink moment so it only felt right to opt for my other favourite colour, green,” Hustwaite said.

“Given that I’ll be interviewing artists on the red carpet and backstage, it’s important that my dress really pops on camera and when Brittany showed me the range of colour options, my eyes were instantly drawn to this shade of green.

“Brittany knows how to capture both adventure and elegance in her work so I was confident that she could create something fun and vibrant that not only compliments my personality but also captures the energy of the music industry.”

Ms Zajitz said to see one of her gowns on a national stage was a dream come true.

“I am beyond excited to debut my first gown for a music event like the ARIAs. It’s a piece close to my heart, with a colour that is unapologetically bold and expressive, absolutely honoured for it to be worn by such a beautiful human being,” she said.

“Working with Bridget has been an absolute pleasure, and to have someone so unafraid of bold colours has pushed this design way beyond the typical bridal looks.”

Hustwaite said she was expecting plenty more head-turning looks from celebrities we know and love.

In particular, she was keen to catch up with homegrown star Troye Sivan to learn all the gossip from his US Sweat tour with Charli.

“I’m also a massive Missy Higgins fan so it will be very special witnessing her Hall of Fame induction. I’ll probably cry when she performs,” she said.

Away from her presenting and MC roles, Hustwaite has been lapping up life in Perth with McDonald and their dog Daisy.

McDonald has been dealing with a knee injury but has been recovering well.

“With those last two WAFL games of the year under his belt, Oscar is very keen for a strong pre-season and determined to get back into the 22,” she said.

“Even our recent holiday in Europe didn’t stop him from packing the footy and resistance bands, hitting local gyms and going on big runs. The Greek Island and Amalfi Coast steps were enough for me!”

Football aside, the couple are looking forward to spending the summer in Perth summer and showing McDonald’s younger sister their favourite spots when she visits in the New Year.

The ARIAs red carpet will be live streamed on YouTube from 10.30 WST and the awards can be watched on Stan from 2pm WST.
