One of the newest institutions for the Margaret River region has reported a stunning $500,000 fundraising achievement.

Coastrek Margaret River wrapped last Friday after more than a thousand trekkers took part in the annual event, with teams and individuals either hiking 35km from Yallingup or 20km from Cape Naturaliste to finish at the Dunsborough foreshore.

The annual event chose a more northerly route this year after the 2023 fundraising festival tackled the gruelling Cape-to-Cape Track.

Event manager Sally Smith said the Margaret River event had become one of the highlights on Coastrek’s national calendar.

“We have a fantastic turn-out for Coastrek Margaret River each year attracting trekkers from the local area and across WA as well as interstate who want to combine a fitness challenge with exploring one of the most beautiful coastlines in Australia,” she said.

Visiting teams as well as residents made up the fundraising total which exceeded the goal of $475,000 dedicated to the Heart Foundation.

At the time of going to press, Coastrek 2024 had raised $508,570, though late donations were still possible from many of the competing teams.
