Some of the region’s young surf stars will be cooking up a storm this weekend to help fund a major trip for their club over east.

A cohort of 18 juniors from the Cowaramup Bay Boardriders, under the command of their captain Okie Fraser, will be running a sausage sizzle at Mitre 10 from early tomorrow, November 9, as the first in a series of planned fundraisers.

The junior surfers will head to the Australian Junior Surfing Titles in Wollongong at the end of the month representing the region and Western Australia.

“The groms are really excited about the prospects of seeing their hard work play out over east,” club spokesperson and parent Tim Fraser said.

“Hopefully the Woolongong waves produce some size and power to help the kids feel more at home, but they are preparing for the small, soft conditions which are most likely in November on the east coast.

“Surfing WA ran a training weekend recently concentrating on beach break surfing. The juniors appreciate the support of the community to fulfil their ambitions.

“It’s a big crew to take from a relatively remote location and the cost for some of the families is quite steep, especially when there is more than one kid taking part.”

The club is also hosting a raffle featuring wines, tools and a luxurious massage voucher provided by sponsors, with tickets $5 each or three for $10.

The Lions Club of Cowaramup had also backed the surf troupe and club members thanked them for their support so far.
