Hawks fall short in tough Country Champs matches
Margaret River’s men’s division Hawks basketball squad has returned battered and bruised from a hard-scoring Country Champs competition in Perth.
The region’s best basketballers fought their way through to a semifinal against Broome, with the young Hawks men going down 18 to 37 in a tough match.
Several other Hawks sides had their Country Champs ambitions quashed this year by WA’s five-day lockdown in February.
The Hawks men defeated Esperance in a close match, 28-27, but were beaten in other contests against Albany and close matches between Margaret River and Busselton and then Mandurah.
Squad manager Julia Bennett said the men did remarkably well in facing the depth of talent in bigger population centres.
