A full day of roller derby and in-line hockey action is coming to the Margaret River Recreation Centre next weekend.

Local teams and visitors will compete in an action-packed round of bouts in roller derby as well as roller hockey on Saturday, August 3.

The Margaret River crews will welcome junior and adult teams from Perth, Bunbury and Geraldton for the occasion.

Concrete Club spokeswoman Jacque Ashworth said the event marked Margaret River hosting its first combined roller sports event since before COVID-19.

“Skate Fest will be amazing opportunity to come out and witness what roller sports we have on offer here in Margs, support our skaters and come and see what it’s all about,” she said.

“If you have been thinking about joining our rad skate community, come and talk to one of us about what trainings we have of offer.”

The weekend event will also give local competitors the chance to further their match-fit readiness, with nine Margaret River in-line hockey plays chosen to represent WA in the national competition in Queensland at the end of September.

Junior events will be held at 1.30pm on August 3, while in adult roller derby at 3pm, a combined Margaret River and Geraldton collective will take on Kwinana’s Dread Pirate Rollers.

From 5pm, an in-line hockey three-by-three round-robin will be held.

The South West Wizards are taking on Perth Tropics, Perth Velocity, The Rockin Rollers and Bunbury teams.

Food providers including Normal Van will attend on the day and the venue is licensed from 4pm.

Tickets are available online at trybooking.com and are $10 or $30 for a family of four.
