A quiz night this coming week will help one of the region’s most tireless volunteer groups continue to support local teenagers as well as communities overseas.

Margaret River Rotary is selling tickets to a quiz night at the Margaret River Senior High School gymnasium on Tuesday night, starting from 6pm.

The fundraising effort focuses on Rotary’s youth programs, including the annual “alternate leavers” which has helped scores of young residents finish exams and then head to less fortunate areas of Timor-Leste to help community building projects.

Quiz night organiser Miriam Bailey said she became involved because Rotary continued to punch above its weight despite having only a couple of dozen local members.

“I went along to a Rotary meeting to see what it was all about and was amazed at the small group of people who are constantly putting their hands up to help with community activities and fundraising,” she said.

“The amount of work undertaken by 20-odd people was outstanding and I just had to join them.”

Ms Bailey said the youth program fundraiser would also help with other Rotary backed schemes which included skill development training, teenagers’ participation in National Science Week, employment preparation and camps where teenagers partner with peers with a disability.

“This is just youth programs. Rotary also is involved in many amazing programs in our town,” she said.

“The Rotary club are incredibly thankful to local businesses who have contributed to incredible prizes for the night.”

There will be prizes, auctions and raffles during the event, which is also BYO drinks and snacks.

Tickets to Tuesday’s quiz are $10 each for tables of six, with tickets available at trybooking.com/CUPJU.
