Witchliffe Ecovillage wins Project of the Year at 2024 UDIA National Awards for Excellence

A Witchcliffe residential development has been recognised on the national stage for its green credentials. Witchcliffe Ecovillage was judged project of the year at the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s National Awards late last month, alongside winning the sustainability category. The awards recognised the integrated approach to the development, which includes self-sufficiency in water and renewable energy, community gardens and regenerative practices in agriculture. Ecovillage director and co-founder Mike Hulme said the recognition is a testament to the development team and community’s dedication. “It also highlights the increasing significance of sustainability and innovation within our industry, reaffirming the positive influence our project has had on both the community and the broader industry landscape,” he said. UDIA national president Col Dutton congratulated the award winners for their exceptional achievements. “All our finalists from each State across Australia demonstrated the attributes of what is special about new development,” he said. The development is a partnership between Sustainable Settlements and the Perron Group, with the latter’s land development general manager Lyle Kenny accepting the accolade at the awards night in Melbourne. A Sustainable House Day is set to take place at Witchcliffe Ecovillage on April 21, which will enable the pubic to explore the development with guided house and garden tours.
