Man charged after he allegedly stole rideshare driver’s car in Nollamara before leading police on a pursuit

A man has been charged with stealing a rideshare driver’s car and leading police on a pursuit through Perth. Police received a report from a rideshare driver at 12.45am on Sunday that his silver Kia Cerato hatchback had been stolen after he dropped off a man and three other on Currong Way in Nollamara. The 31-year-old man allegedly assaulted the rideshare driver before stealing the car. The others left on foot. The car was sighted just after 3am by police on Abernethy Road in High Wycombe, where a pursuit began after it was further alleged the man failed to stop. The car continued to drive recklessly in High Wycombe and Burswood before a stinger device was deployed to puncture the tyres. The man abandoned the car on Goodwood Parade just before 3.30am, fleeing on foot before being arrested a short time later. He has been charged with one count of reckless driving to escape pursuit, failing to comply with a direction to stop, failing to stop, driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, no authority to drive, aggravated robbery, and stealing a motor vehicle. He will appear before the Northbridge Magistrates Court on Sunday.
