Sex assault squad plea for witnesses after reported Canning River incident

Kayakers and walkers in the area of the Canning River last Sunday are being asked if they have any information about a suspected sex assault believed to have happened in broad daylight.

Sex Assault Squad detectives have issued the a plea for information about an reported incident in bushland alongside the Canning River in Cannington on Sunday September 29.

WA Police say they have been told that the incident occurred around 1pm, involving a man and a woman in an area of bushland just off the end of Civic Gardens.

Around the same time, several members of the public were in the general area.

“Detectives would like to identify and speak to (them), including people walking nearby and others on the river canoeing or kayaking. It is believed those people may have information that could assist with the investigation,” a WA Police spokesperson said.
