Geraldton Turf Club’s race day on Friday has been cancelled, with irrigation issues causing a problem for part of the track.

The turf club issued a statement on Thursday announcing the fixture had been cancelled.

According to the statement, the issue affects the track at the 400m mark.

“Unfortunately, we have had to cancel tomorrow’s (Friday) race meeting due to a major blow out of the irrigation system at the 400-metre mark which has impacted a large area of the track and made it unsafe for racing,” the statement read.

Officials were set to inspect the track on Friday morning to assess if the meeting could be rescheduled.

The turf club has apologised, with an update set to come as soon as a decision has been made.
