No charges laid as police close investigation into alleged sexual assault of ex-Labor MP Brittany Lauga

Police have closed their investigation into the alleged sexual assault of former Labor MP Brittany Lauga after she claimed she was drugged and assaulted at a pub – confirming no charges have been laid. Ms Lauga, the former assistant minister for health under the Steven Miles-led State Government, first reported the incident to Queensland Police in April last year. She alleged she had been drugged and sexually assaulted during a night out in Yeppoon. In a statement at the time, Ms Lauga said she also checked herself into the hospital and underwent tests which she said confirmed the presence of drugs she did not take. That same month, Queensland Police confirmed they were investigating the sexual assault complaint. In an updated statement this week, a police spokesman confirmed the matter had been closed after nine months. “Police have now concluded their investigations into this matter,” the spokesman told NewsWire. “The matter has been finalised and no one has been charged.” NewsWire has contacted Ms Lauga for further comment. Ms Lauga served as the MP for the electoral district of Keppel, along the central Queensland coast, between 2015 and 2024. She lost her seat during last year’s state election to the LNP’s Nigel Hutton. At the time she initially reported the incident to police, Ms Lauga said she learned video of the alleged incident – allegedly captured by bystanders across the street – was circulating on Snapchat.
