Rescuers have saved missing hiker Marissa Gee after she disappeared in bushland in the Blue Mountains six days ago.

A Rural Fire Service helicopter crew spotted the 33-year-old hiker in the Blue Mountains region, west of Sydney, about 2.30pm on Thursday.

The hiker disappeared last Friday evening, sparking a massive land and air search operation around Mt Wilson involving NSW Police Rescue, PolAir, the NSW Ambulance Service, the State Emergency Service and the Rural Fire Service.

Police held concerns for her welfare due to the “extreme heat” in the area at the time.

Searchers located her vehicle on Galwey Ln at Mt Wilson and her tent at the Cathedral Reserve camping ground over the weekend.

The police said she was known to frequent the Katoomba, Mt Wilson and Bilpin areas.

A geo-targeted SMS was sent out to people in the Blue Mountains and Mt Wilson areas appealing for help.

“Police would like to thank the public and media for their assistance,” the police said.
