Woman, 56, allegedly five times over the limit after being caught driving on wrong side of the road west of Melbourne

A woman allegedly caught driving on the wrong side of the road directly at police conducting a road safety blitz was almost five times over the legal limit when she was stopped for a roadside breath test. The alleged horror reading follows Victoria Police patrolling in Hamilton - about 300km west of Melbourne - as part of Operation Scoreboard, a statewide policing effort over the AFL Grand Final long weekend. About 1.50am on Saturday, officers intercepted a station wagon allegedly coming straight for them on Coleraine Rd, driving in the opposite lane. The 56-year old female driver was stopped and underwent a breath test, returning a positive result of .228. Police immediately suspended her license and impounded her car at a cost of $1445. The Hamilton woman is expected to be summonsed to appear before a court to face drink driving and traffic charges. A Victoria Police spokesperson said police would be highly visible across the state’s roads over the weekend in an effort to drive down road trauma.
