Australia replace India on top of Test cricket rankings

Australia have reclaimed top spot in the ICC's Test rankings, replacing India.

Despite not playing since winning 2-0 in New Zealand in March, Pat Cummins' team have jumped above India, who they defeated in last year's World Test Championship final.

Australia were able to return to No.1 due to the latest update dropping out the results of the 2020-21 season.

India famously won 2-1 in Australia during the COVID-19 affected 2020-21 season, with Rishabh Pant producing a series-winning knock at the Gabba.

Australia are on 124 points, four ahead of India, while England are third on 105.

Afghanistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe have dropped out of the official rankings due to not playing enough Tests to qualify in the past three years.

Teams need to play a minimum of eight Tests during that period to be on the table.

India remain No.1 in the ODI and T20 men's rankings, despite losing the 50-over World Cup final against Australia last November.,

Australia will host India in a five-Test series this summer, starting at Perth's Optus Stadium on November 22.
