Australian cricket’s newest sensation will hit the WACA Ground on Wednesday as the powerhouse eye a series clean sweep of India.

New Aussie opener Georgia Voll has scored 46 and 100 in her first two one-day internationals after replacing Alyssa Healy at the top of the order.

While Australia has already wrapped up the series with two dominant wins in Brisbane, they have a chance to extend their lead at the top of the new women’s DDI championship.

The Aussies are one game clear of England at the top of the table, with India sitting third.

But with the future in mind, Voll has been the biggest win for the hosts this series and has now been added to the squad for their next series against New Zealand.

“She has taken to it like a duck to water, hasn’t she, Volly?” Beth Mooney said.

“She is a bit of a breath of fresh air being a country kid. She knows her game pretty well after doing it for a while in domestic cricket, so I think that has really helped her come into international cricket with a bit of confidence in her own game and her own form.

“She has been really impressive. She has certainly done everything she can to make sure she keeps her name up in lights with the Australian selectors.

“These young kids coming in and peeling off hundreds left, right and centre puts a bit of pressure on the rest of us, but it’s a great spot that we’re in, in Australian cricket.”

Mooney said the championship, which includes all one-dayers between 2022 and 2025, keeps the team on high alert.

“I think we have to take each of these games in isolation as they’re for championship points,” she said.

“We have got to try and nail (Wednesday) and then head over the ditch to New Zealand and get a few points there.

“The ODI championship presents a great opportunity to play each game in isolation, whether it’s a dead rubber or not.”

Mooney has taken the gloves in this series in the absence of Healy, but the West Australian star hinted she could hold onto them for the tour of New Zealand as the captain recovers from a knee injury.

“At this stage, she is doing everything she can to make sure she is right, she will head over to New Zealand with us... she has been in the nets batting and things like that, I don’t know if she has done any keeping yet,” Mooney said.

“She will get assessed going into New Zealand, but I think at this stage she will just try and get on the field as a batter.”
