VideoSam Kerr gave this young fan a moment she'll never forget after the Matildas' epic quarterfinal win.

The Matildas’ heartstopping win will long live in the memory of Sam Kerr - but it might be even more unforgettable for the ecstatic young fan who walked away with the superstar’s shirt.

Kerr and her Aussie teammates were in raptures after their penalty shootout triumph over France, with the nerve-wracking victory propelling the team into the World Cup semifinals.

The crowd at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium were treated to a night that will long live in Australian sporting folklore, so most weren’t about to leave until they’d soaked up all the celebrations along with the players on the pitch.

But just as one young girl thought her night couldn’t get any better after witnessing history, Kerr came wandering over in her direction and removed her top.

The joy on her beaming face - complete with green Matildas zinc - was clear for everyone to see as she excitedly took in the moment.

Kerr later addressed the fans, thanking them for helping lift the team in a raucous atmosphere in Brisbane.

“Tillies fans - you were absolutely incredible tonight,” Kerr said in a video to supporters.

“We heard you. We felt you. We’re going to the semifinals.

“Let’s go. See you in Sydney.”
