Australians in the NBA: How Luke Travers, Josh Giddey, Dyson Daniels and Josh Green went in the last week

Former Perth Wildcat Luke Travers recorded the first triple-double of his professional career in the G-League on Saturday to send a reminder of his talents to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Travers has had to be patient during his first season on a NBA roster. The Cavaliers are dominating with a 22-4 record and that has meant he hasn’t had many opportunities to play for them. Travers has played only one NBA game this month and spent just two minutes on the court. But he is seizing upon every chance he gets in the G-League and dominated the 10-point win over Wisconsin Herd. Travers had 25 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. That effort set new career-highs for Travers for both points and assists in a sign of his development since moving to the US. Australia’s youngsters are continuing to shine throughout the NBA with Dyson Daniels having 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists during Atlanta’s NBA Cup semi-final loss to Milwaukee Bucks. Daniels is enjoying a superb season and will be a constant inspiration for younger brother Dash who has signed to play for Melbourne United as part of the NBL Next Stars program. Dash was tossing up between United, the Perth Wildcats and moving to the US to play college basketball but settled on playing for Melbourne. Josh Giddey used the Next Stars program to launch his NBA career and impressed with 17 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals against Australian Boomers teammate Josh Green’s Charlotte Hornets. Green had nine points, two rebounds and two assists during that game. Giddey has averaged 12.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.8 assists during December as he continues his impressive form since moving to the Bulls. Elsewhere, Olympic bronze medallist Matisse Thybulle is being spoken about as a trade option after not playing at all this season due to injury.
