Supporters of Australian athletes can now throw flowers at their favourite Olympians even if they are across the world.

A new feature within the Google search engine has given viewers a new, cute little way of cheering on their favourite athletes.

The feature pops up when you search for an athlete who is competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

If the athlete has won a medal, a widget will appear on the screen — which looks like a medal with some details of their event.

Punters can click on the medal and it will produce a bunch of flowers that can be thrown at the athlete.

Google has gotten into the Olympic spirit, with new homepage logos daily to honour participants in different events.

On Saturday, the search engine turned the spotlight on sailing, with its latest edition of the search engine logo an animated bird being taken away for sailing.

Since the inauguration of the Paris Olympics, several editions of the Google logo have honoured separate sports events of the Summer Games, including surfing, artistic gymnasts and football.

At the beginning of the Paris Olympics 2024, Google featured a GIF on its logo that provided a glimpse of the Summer Games opening ceremony.
