Take a sip of Taittinger champagne and step foot into the historical province of France, between the cities of Reims and Epernay, renowned for its sparkling tipples.

Or opt for a glass of red from Mollydooker Wines and transport yourself to one of Australia’s oldest and most acclaimed wine regions — McLaren Vale in South Australia.

Wine Show by The Bay is returning to The University Club of Western Australia on August 3, providing an opportunity for you to take your tastebuds on a nomadic journey across the globe without stepping foot outside of WA.

The University Club’s signature event is a haven for wine enthusiasts, budding oenophiles, and anyone who is keen for a tasty trip around the world.

From insightful masterclasses to culinary experiences, the one-day event offers a fruitful program. General entry will only set you back $30 and includes a monogrammed PLUMM tasting glass. Here’s a selection of the extras available to enhance your day in Matilda Bay.

Oysters and Idee Fixe

Name a better duo than Perth’s oyster man Jerry Fraser and Margaret River’s dedicated Blanc de Blancs house, Idee Fixe. I’ll wait … The indulgent experience costs $40pp and runs between 11.30am to 12.30pm, with half a dozen fresh oysters accompanied by crisp sparkling wines. Affordable trip to WA’s South West if you ask us.

Sipping on Spritz

It’s not often an expert mixologist leads you through the craft of making a faultless spritz. The wine-based cocktail originates from the same place as prosecco, in Veneto, Italy. It was created during the 19th century when Austro-Hungarian soldiers “watered down” strong Italian wines with a ‘spritz’.

World of Cheese

Cyprus halloumi … French camembert … English stinking bishop? Or Spanish blue cheese Queso de Valdeon perhaps? A knowledgeable cheesemonger will be your guide on a global gastronomic journey with Little Sister Delicatessen. Try a wide variety of cheeses, complimentary wines and condiments.

Red or White?

That’s the million-dollar question. Take your pick and choose between Ravishing Rieslings or The Art of Red sessions from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. Treat your tastebuds to a selection of Mount Barker’s Galafrey’s Wines or discover why Mollydooker Wines produce some of the most sought-after wines in Australia.
